AWS Field Trip Lloyd Shaw Leader Great Blue Heron Field Trip Report November 12, 2006 Atlantic County Park We had a great morning walk through Atlantic County Park. The trails there are excellent- clean, clear and well maintained. One of the nicest trails is a three mile long, elevated, handicapped accessible boardwalk along the South river. November may not be the best time to visit for birding but this is a great area to get out for a nice walk anytime of year. It is really great for birds from mid April until mid July when there are both migrants and breeders in the area. The rain held off just long enough for us to enjoy a leisurely walk through the north end of the park. We had a typical group of birds for the season; chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, house and gold finches, hermit thrush, brown creeper, Carolina and winter wrens, golden crowned kinglets, yellow rumped warblers, turkey and black vultures, robins, red-winged blackbirds and a few other as well. We were not as lucky during our afternoon visit to the Corbin city area
impoundments of the Lester G. McNamara W.M.A. (Better known as Tuckahoe
W.M.A.)The skies opened up and poured on us. There was not much to be seen
during such a deluge so we bid each other farewell and called it a day. Oh well,
sometimes the weather wins. We all enjoyed our morning and I'm looking forward
to going back soon. Thanks very much to all who attended. See you on the birding
trail!
